    MEDJUGORJE CROATIA PILGRIMAGE OCTOBER 2008


    Day 1 - DEPARTURE FROM YOUR GATEWAY CITY

    Departure from USA, intercontinental flight to Croatia, meals are served on board of the plane.


    Day 2 - SPLIT/DUBROVNIK - MEDJUGORJE

    Arrival at the airport Split - Republic of Croatia. Here all our groups meet JeriCo Christian Journeys guide. Our drive to Medjugorje lasts about three hours along the most beautiful coastline in the world, along the Adriatic Sea. Our accommodation is in one of many privately owned pensions (hotels) where we have our first Croatian cousin dinner. Time permitting we can attend evening program in the church of the patron saint of Medjugorje - St. James. Our first overnight in Medjugorje.

    Day 3,4,5,6 - MEDJUGORJE PROGRAM

    On our first day after breakfast our experienced and local English-speaking guide will give us an orientation walk from our hotel to the Church St. James. Our program in next few days in Medjugorje will consists of a talks given by Franciscans from St. James Parish of Medjugorje, daily Holy Mass, Apparition Hill, site of the apparitions of OUR LADY then of the visits when possible to the visionaries, Ivan, Marija, Jakov, Mirjana or Vicka, who still today, while you are reading this itinerary, receive apparitions of Our Lady. We will climb Cross Mountain, and make the most difficult "Way of The Cross" in the world. We will go and hear a talk by Fr. Jozo, who was pastor at the time when the first apparition occurred in Medjugorje on June 24th 1981. On our schedule is, of course daily English speaking Holy Mass. Whether your group is accompanied with a priest or not, the Medjugorje parish makes sure you have daily celebration of The Holy Eucharist in your native tongue. Messages that Our Lady - QUEEN OF PEACE has been giving here is the foundation for the evening program. It is a program each evening that consists of prayer of all Mysteries of the Holy Rosary, of evening Holy Mass, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Prayer for Healing of the body and the soul.

    Day 7 - MEDJUGORJE - DUBROVNIK

    Today you leave Medjugorje, morning transfer to Dubrovnik. In the early afternoon we will start our walking city tour of the truly unique town with over thirteen hundred years of history. Group will visit Cathedral with the numerous relics brought to Dubrovnik from all parts of Mediterranean during the time when Dubrovnik Republic was well known throughout the region as a maritime powerful city state. Visit includes Church of St. Blaise, patron saint of Dubrovnik Republic then to Dominican church, Franciscan church and Monastery of the “Fratres Minores”. Walk along the Stradun the largest street is always like a walk through the centuries of the history of old town of Dubrovnik. Check in to hotel for dinner and overnight, (it is possible that dinner will be in one of the picturesque Dubrovnik restaurants).

    Day 8 – DUBROVNIK - CAVTAT

    Today after the breakfast group will leave for the excursion to Cavtat, enjoy the scenic drive along the most southern part of the Croatian coast. After the visit to the town Cavtat free time for visit, shopping and return by boat to the Old town of Dubrovnik. Free afternoon in Dubrovnik before last overnight here.


    Day 9 – DUBROVNIK - ISLAND HVAR

    After the breakfast we will embark the ferry boat “Marco Polo” and next several hours spend on this ship on our way to Hvar. Along the way you will have a chance to enjoy most beautiful type of the Mediterranean coast – Dalmatian coast. Adriatic Sea in Croatia has over twelve hundred island, great number of peninsulas and bays. On the way to Hvar we will pass by Korcula, breathtaking view on the Old town bearing the same name as island. Arrival to the island Hvar, transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

    Day 10 – HVAR - SIGHTSEEING

    Today most of the morning we will spend on walking tour of town Hvar which history goes back to the 3rd century BC. Island Hvar was colonized by ancient Greeks, same island played very important role in the time when local population fought the Roman Empire to preserve its independence. City tour will include the visit to the cathedral of St. Steven from 16th century, so called new fortress Spanjol, XVI century one erected by French called Napoleon fortress from 19th century, Arsenal from the 14th century, place where dramas and operas were performed until the 1796 – masterpiece of the architecture. Later we will have short visit to the probably oldest settlement on island of Hvar – “Pharos” as Greeks called it, today Stari Grad. Free time in the afternoon to be spent at city Hvar the square being surrounded by the buildings from different epochs – Hvar as city monument.


    Day 11 – HVAR - SPLIT

    In the morning group will catch one of the early ferry boats and head towards Split. Same afternoon walking city tour of Split, 1700 years old city begins with the Diocletian’s summer residence. In the early 4th century Roman Emperor has finished his palace which later became the nucleus of the growing town. Beautifully preserved walls of the palace with the St. Doimu’s Cathedral, bell tower and Peristyle.

    Day 12 – SPLIT, CROATIA – USA

    Transfer to the airport, flight back home to the US, arrival will be same day.
